Gift: Shepard by KupiecKorzenny Gift: Shepard by KupiecKorzenny
Small birthday gift for =JulianneKnight! :cake: Unfortunately, I had time only for this little sketchy thing.
Lines are waaaay too wobbly, but I want to become more independent from scanner, so I practice drawing with tablet.
I found another pack of brushes I like, I think I'll add them to my usual set.

Happy birthday!

Also, if you haven't seen her comic Hide and seek yet, you definietly should read it! It has 5 pages so far and starts here.

Mass Effect belongs to BioWare.
This particular commander Shepard belongs to =JulianneKnight.
© Art belongs to Joanna Szczepańska.

Whoah! That looks just like how I imagine my Shepard!

I totally was not expecting you to make this for me! Nice secrecy! You know, I think this will be the only thing I get this year. My own boyfriend just mumbled "oh... Happy birthday" when I told him I'm 25 today. I think he forgot. He forgot our anniversary last month. I had a gift for him, but he had nothing for me. It's ok though, I'm not gift-crazy or anything. It's just nice to be acknowledged is all.

But I don't think he would have drawn me anything anyway. I like gifts people make far better than any that come from stores, and yours is one that everyone can share! Thank you so much! It really means a lot! I seriously teared up a little when I saw this.

Oh and hey good for you for moving from scanners to a tablet. It's a tough transition, but trust me, it's with it. This is a great piece, especially for just starting out. I actually quite like the wobbly lines as you call them. I think it's a good style.

What tablet are you using?

Thanks, I'm glad you like it :) And I really enjoy making gifts, so it's not a big deal for me.
I agree about hand-made gifts! They may not be as perfect as ones from the shop, but it's always just so nice to think that someone actually spent time inventing the idea and than executing it.

I'm sorry about your boyfriend's bad memory :( Have you considered clear suggestions, like "Hey, I have birthday next week, shall we go out or something"? This would give him time to prepare. I have pretty bad memory myself, but I try to note everything down in order to not forget about anything (hopefully dA reminds me od birthdays of people I watch a week before).

I use Wacom Bamboo Pen&Touch and work with Photoshop Elements. I'm glad you like sketchy lines; I enjoyed working on lineart digitally because of how clean it is, and it's much easier for me to manipulate lines' thickness in this technique.
How about you?

Oh, I reminded him, but his memory is terrible. About as bad as mine lol (my dad discretely sends me emails to remind me of important family dates.) I'm bit mad or anything. :)

And yes, handmade gifts are great. This art is especially great as a gift though because it's public, so other people can enjoy it too! And I really appreciate that you included a link to my page and comic. That was very nice of you.

You use a Bamboo Pen and Touch? Is that the small black tablet? I had one of those. They're OK, but their small surface area makes it a bit hard to get good long lines. If you find that you enjoy working on a tablet, I suggest getting a Wacom Bamboo Create. They have a larger active area and I think they have more pressure sensitivity, and they don't cost as much as Intuos. I use a Create myself, in Photoshop CS (not Elements) and I recently started using the path tool for inking as I get better lines, then I just right click and hit "stroke path." Not sure if you can do that in Elements.
